When an internet connection becomes unstable, the first reaction is often to call the ISP immediately. Sometimes that is necessary, but just as often the issue is something you can isolate yourself first.
The point of this post was to encourage a more practical troubleshooting mindset before escalating the problem.
Some of the common causes worth checking first include:
- DNS issues
- Router or modem problems
- Local network congestion
- Wi-Fi signal quality
- Device-specific configuration issues
Even a quick round of checks such as testing another device, restarting the router, trying a direct connection, or comparing DNS behavior can tell you whether the problem is local or something the provider needs to resolve.
